How accurate are these cost estimates?

Estimates are derived from each vendor's published PAYG pricing in July 2026. They reflect standard on-demand rates only. Enterprise contracts, committed-use discounts, and credits can materially change the final bill. Confirm on each provider's pricing page before signing.

What counts as one tile request?

A tile request is one HTTP fetch of a single map tile (typically a 256×256 or 512×512 PNG/MVT/PBF). Vector style.json requests, font glyphs, and sprite sheets are billed separately by most vendors.

Are pricing calculations real-time?

Calculations are computed entirely in your browser from a static pricing model updated each release. No data leaves the page; you can compute thousands of scenarios without any backend hits.

Does maps.guru offer a free tier?

Yes. Every maps.guru account includes 50,000 tile requests, 10,000 geocoding requests, and 10,000 routing requests per month at no cost, with no credit card required. Pro is ₹3,999 / $49 a month for 1M tiles and 200K geocoding requests. Enterprise is custom-priced against your volumes.

Why is per-request billing more expensive at scale?

Because the bill grows linearly with traffic while revenue per map view usually does not. A single desktop map view loads roughly 10 to 20 tiles, so 100,000 sessions is well over a million billable tile requests. Flat-tier pricing caps that exposure, which is why a traffic spike does not produce a proportional invoice.

Maps API billing terms, defined

The vocabulary behind quotas, free tiers, and per-request pricing, in plain language.

What is Quota?: A quota is the number of requests a plan includes each calendar month, counted per service. maps.guru meters maps, geocoding, and routing separately, so a heavy tile month does not consume your geocoding allowance.
What is Free tier?: A free tier is the usage a plan grants at no cost before any charge applies. The maps.guru free tier includes 50,000 tile requests, 10,000 geocoding requests, and 10,000 routing requests per month, and does not require a card.
What is API key?: An API key is the credential that identifies your project on every request. maps.guru keys are prefixed mapx_, carry per-service scopes, and can be restricted to specific origins so a public key cannot be reused on another domain.
What is Pay-as-you-go?: Pay-as-you-go is billing where you are charged per request with no fixed monthly commitment. It suits spiky or seasonal traffic, but costs more per request than a subscription once volume becomes predictable.
What is Overage?: Overage is usage beyond a plan quota within a billing period. On maps.guru, requests past the quota are rejected rather than silently billed, so a traffic spike cannot produce a surprise invoice.
